Jago Thorne
A breath of fresh air is released in the honest, modern balladry of Jago Thorne. Bedridden for a year as a result of an undiagnosed illness, Thorne’s work was built off what he nonchalantly refers to as his “gut.” “Nothing gets you naked quicker than the feeling of an approaching ledge,” he admitted in a recent interview. His debut album, “Fire in the Wake”, is a 12 song LP driven by a percussive, electro-acoustic band featuring Jago’s distinctive vocals and backed by bassist Tony Garnier, drummer Shawn Pelton, Stan Harrison on horns, and pedal steel player Cartwright Thompson; a crew capable of pop-precision and surprise left-turns. Jago’s arrangements combine ambient electric guitars, bit-crushed synths, folk-inspired acoustic guitars, and a driving rhythm section – all with a passionate Americana feel. Jago is an accomplished lyric writer and story teller. Working in a old farm in New England, his songs are reminiscent of early Springsteen, Dylan and Tom Waits. At times haunting, seductive, or all out rocking, “Fire in the Wake” reveals the artist in a raw creative form. Be sure to take note, this is just the beginning for Thorne.
